From time to time sponsors will ask if it is possible to send a gift to their sponsored child.
New Life for Haiti adheres to the following gift policy:
1. Children love to receive photos of their sponsor and/or their sponsor's family.
2. Gifts sent by sponsors to children can be mailed to New Life for Haiti. P.O. Box 33, Plainfield, IL 60544 and must fit in an 8X10 mailing envelope. (Please note: New Life for Haiti DOES NOT accept gifts of cell phones from sponsors to children, as American cell phones are different from Haitian cell phones AND children do not have the means to purchase cell phone service for their phones.)
3. Sponsors are allowed to bring gifts to their sponsored child if they come on a New Life for Haiti team trip. Gifts must be presented to the child in an opaque bag, in the presence of New Life for Haiti staff. If the gift is for a Village of Hope orphan, the gift can only be 1 item of clothing OR 1 book in Haitian Creole (there are books available for purchase on Amazon.) If a sponsor of a Village of Hope orphan wishes to purchase THE SAME small gift for all 12 orphans, then items other than clothing or books are allowed. (Please note that we are trying to avoid hurt feelings among children who live as "siblings" in the same household.)
4. Regarding CASH gifts: New Life for Haiti does not accept cash gifts from sponsors to children. However, if a sponsor would like to help their sponsored child's family with a cash gift in person (when on a team trip), that is allowed. However, New Life for Haiti staff must be notified of the trip participant's intention, make arrangements for the proper setting, and approve the amount and purpose of the cash gift. The cash gift must be presented to the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the child and not to the child. (Please note that there are cultural issues that require sensitivity with such gifts.)
